5) Officer’s Reports

a) Vice Commodore
Renzo Marcone reported that there were two issues he was following up. The south flag pole was supposed to have been up by now but the contractors have been busy. The same issue has delayed the improvements to the Range lights.

The Fairway Buoy has come loose and we are seeking a more secure way of fastening it in place.

Renzo then asked the new members present to introduce themselves.

G05-003 BIRT the report of the Vice-Commodore be approved
Moved Renzo Marcone Seconded Gord Lee Carried

b) Rear Commodore
Dave Hyman reported that the Range lights should be installed this week. The job involved two new poles and wiring at the projected cost of $4200.

Discussions had taken place with the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority and the Ministry of Natural Resources in order to be prepared for any necessary dredging.

Dave described the best course for entering the Lake from the river.

The club had removed 5 more trees from the river that posed a hazard. The Township had assisted by removing trees from their property that were in danger of falling in the river.

Members were asked in the Fall this year to store their docks on the east side of the clubhouse in order to permit improvements to the trailer / dock storage lot. Members were reminded that dock storage on the South side is to be limited to the cement pad.

Members raised issues with speed and right of way. It was suggested to the Rear Commodore that the signs planned for by the ramps include the club policy that boats entering the range channel from the lake have right of way over boats entering from the river mouth. The Vice Commodore agreed to include that on the new signs.

A member raised safety concerns with the practice of some boaters returning to the river on plane. Another member noted that some boats required more speed to prevent drift onto the rocks to the sides of the channel.

Dave noted that if members were replacing or needed to improve their docks Rona now had a dock department.

G05-004 BIRT the report of the Rear Commodore be approved
Moved Dave Hyman Seconded Scott Montgomery Carried

Tim Johnston reported on the two Social events planned for the year. The Civic Holiday BBQ will have a family emphasis with the jumping castle present for the children. A question was raised about considering live music for the event. Tim indicated it might be welcome but there were no plans.

e) Harbour Masters
Dan Sevcik reported for the North side. He reminded members to ensure that their dock was placed at the stake and was perpendicular to the shore. There are some docks in that will have to be adjusted. Also members were reminded to remove floating devices such as barrels that were used to put their dock in as these made create a hazard when water levels rise and fall rapidly.

There was a gate key hand out prior to the meeting and it would resume after the meeting. A member asked where he could obtain a club house key. These will be available from the Harbour Masters.

A member has a problem with a rock in the water now that docks were repositioned. The harbour masters will respond.

The club is looking for a used Stanley boat or other suitable boat for maintaining the channel markers and assisting members with docks. The members were asked to report should they become aware of such a boat being available.

b) Other - Cleanup
John Wood noted that there was a concern expressed at the Lurgan and Blair's Grove cottagers and homeowners meeting about the need for a cleanup at the river mouth on the north side. A member expressed a concern about the trees in the water on the South side. It was suggested that a cleanup day would be appropriate.

7) New Business
Pine River Watershed Group.
Herb Millard reported on his liaison with the Pine River Watershed Group. He noted that this is a very important group: that pollution levels in the Pine River are sometimes 500% above provincial standards. He asked that the club consider appointing a local person to represent the club as the group meets often through the year and it is difficult to attend from home. Members Doug Brown and Dave Hyman are also members of the group representing other bodies but it was felt that we should have a specific representative.
